Holy Family Academy is a qualified 501(c)3 charity that is an independent Catholic school, operated and governed by a board of Catholic lay people. The Academy DOES NOT receive any money from the Catholic Church. The accrediting agency is the Education Department of the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops.

The instructional program develops excitement for learning, effective study habits, and works toward each student’s formation in the human, intellectual, spiritual, and missionary domains.

  • Holy Family Academy is a qualified 501(c)3 nonprofit. All donations & gifts are tax deductible.

    The Academy is an independent Catholic school, not a parish-based school. The Academy does not receive financial support from the Catholic Church.

  • Holy Family Academy is the first Catholic school in Van Zandt County and opened in 2023-24 with classes for pre-K thru 3rd grade.

    The school is now enrolling Pre-K thru 4th grade students for fall 2024.

    Middle school and high school classes will be offered as enrollment grows. Satellite centers for pre-K thru K-1 classes will be developed eventually in nearby communities.

  • Holy Family Academy works to build up the total Christian community thru prayerful dialogue and interaction.

    Students and staff take part in local service and missionary activities and collaborate with other Christian schools and groups.

  • A seven-member Board of Directors determines school policy and oversees the operation of the Academy. All directors are Catholic lay people residing in Van Zandt County.

    Current directors include Brad Schley, Charlene Silva, Dan Macy, Lea Kottwitz, Sharon Stehsel, and Tim Michels. (place seven is currently vacant)

    The pastor of St. Therese Catholic Church in Canton is currently the spiritual advisor to the Board.

  • The Bylaws embody the vision and prayerful reflection of the Directors, define management structure, and specify policies to guide operation of Holy Family Academy.

  • Provisional Accreditation by the Education Department of the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops is anticipated in April or August 2024.

    The Education Dept. of the TCCB is a TEA approved accrediting agency.
